This is it. This year's club is about to start and I wanted to take advantage of this platform to let you know a couple of things you need to ensure your spot in our club.
First of all, you need to know that there are only 15 spots available this year. I know, it is never enough, but that is what we can do for now. Due to the small availability we have designed a point system to select the best of the best students from Park Place to participate. I'll tell you all about it now.
If you are in fifth grade, great!, you get 2 points, if you are a 4th grader, you get 1 point. No other grades can participate, as this is a very challenging activity that needs a very mature participant.
One of the benefits from being an old friend of the club is that you get 3 points!. Yep, if you were a member last year, you'll get 3 points towards your membership this year.
Everything we do in our club is STEM, so if you are GT identified student, you'll be able to use some of your work in the club for your GT projects!. That is why we will give you 3 points towards your membership if you are GT.
If you are a good student you probably passed the STAAR test last year. We want to give you points for that too. So, if you made "meet" in your STAAR Reading we will give you 1 point extra, but if you made "master" you'll receive 2 points!. Of course math is a very important subject for all we do at RoboTigers Robotics Club, so, for those STAAR results you'll get 2 points for "meet" and 4 points for "master"!
Now, the most important part. You'll need to fill out the FORM online before Friday September 21st at midnight. It is very important that you do if you want to make it to the club this year. Just click on the link above (where the word "FORM" is) and submit your application online. You'll receive an answer by Sunday morning and, if selected, you'll be expected to be present at our first meeting on Monday September 24th at Mr. Puerta's classroom. There are only 15 spots available, six for CASE and eight for Non-CASE students, please be aware that not everybody can be accepted and that we will base our decision on the amount of points you are awarded.
We will meet every Monday and Thursday from 3:10 through 5:50. Our session will always start with an hour of "homework help" in Mr. Puertas' classroom, followed by 20 minutes to grab some food at the cafeteria. After that we will start our club at the robotics lab. Please be aware that we will have around six field trips on Saturday to attend robotics events related to the challenges we will participate in. Plan to attend to those events since they are key to understand and train for the challenges.
I hope you are selected and we can build together part of the amazing history of Park Place. See you soon!
Mr. P.
